Sister of the Sage White-tailed Deer Hunt for Women Hunters

For the seventh year, The Antlers Ranch Inc. and the May family have donated white-tailed doe hunts for up to 6 to the Sisters of the Sage (SOTS) near Meeteetse, WY!

SISTERS OF THE SAGE WHITE-TAILED DEER HUNT, SEPTEMBER 27-29, 2024!

If you would like to join us, complete the application by Monday, April 15

You will be contacted if you are selected on or before May 1. Contact Ashley O’Neil with any questions ashley.oneil@nwc.edu or 443-786-6724.

This is a unique opportunity for SOTS hunters to be supported by experienced senior SOTS as hunting mentors.

2021 Whitetail doe hunters and mentors, left to right: Tanya Lewis, 17; Sally Thomas, 20; Erin Campbell, 19; Alex Shannon (WYWF staff); Melissa Amick-Whiteman, 19; Caitlin Yougquist, 15; Leanne Bell, 15; Jen Barclay, 16 and Havely Holt, 17.

This high-success opportunity will be an excellent experience for any beginning hunter, allowing those with more experience to mentor in a low-key environment. With easy access and relatively flat terrain, this is not a physically demanding hunt. The Antlers Ranch consists of approximately 30,000 deeded acres, including over 8 miles of river bottom on the Wood River. Whitetail deer thrive on the ranch due to the incredible habitat and year-round food supply from the haying operations.

The ranch is a unique operation and has a lot of history. It was homesteaded by the May family in 1895 and has remained a 5th-generation working ranch-raising bison. It is situated in the beautiful Absaroka Mountains and the Wood River Valley, approximately 50 minutes south of Cody, WY, and 15 minutes from the historic town of Meeteetse, WY. SOTS hunters will have the opportunity to experience all the scenery and wildlife the ranch offers in addition to an excellent hunt experience.

Participants should plan to arrive on Friday for dinner and depart late afternoon on Sunday after everyone cleans up at the hotel and ranch. There will be three groups of three—two hunters, each with a mentor. One hunter will be a mentor-in-training, and the other will be less inexperienced. This will help all hunters grow in their hunting journey!

In an effort to continue building camaraderie among the SOTS, three cabins have been reserved at the Oasis Motel in Meeteetse. Each cabin accommodates three hunters in individual beds and has full kitchens.

All hunters are responsible for their own:

  • Travel expenses (to and from Meeteetse, WY – Great carpool opportunity!)
  • WY doe/fawn deer license & conservation stamp (if you don’t already have one)
  • Meat processing expenses (instruction is available to those who choose to process their harvests)

Each hunter must pay $350 (paid by July 1) to cover the 2-night, 3 day mentored event, including:

  • Motel accommodations
  • Friday and Saturday evening dinners
  • Brown Bag Lunch items for Saturday and Sunday
  • Mentor support – weekend expenses

This fee includes meals (Saturday dinner) and motel accommodations. It allows us to thank and support our senior mentors, who graciously donate their time to make this event successful. It also helps us “pay it forward” to those who make this event possible! Any money leftover will be donated to the Wyoming Women’s Antelope Hunt—our favorite cause!

Sisters of the Sage Caitlin Youngquist, 16, and Erin Campbell, 19.

This is an exclusive opportunity for hunt alumnae. The application process helps to build a structure ensuring future SOTS hunts.
