Get Started Doing Something in 2020

People sit back and do nothing but complain and watch their freedoms as they’re taken away.

I spend a lot of time advocating for conservation and hunting issues, but I also allow time to press for the protection of our second amendment rights. The second amendment isn’t about hunting, but without it, we won’t have pursuits in many areas. More importantly, the second amendment protects the first amendment which is a big one for me because I’m a writer and Christian.

I often have people thank me for the work that I do, and I’m not going to lie — at times I find the thank you’s a bit annoying. Yeah, I know how to gracefully accept a compliment including a thank you, but in the back of my mind, I’m wondering many things.

  • Did you call your legislators?
  • Did you write your legislators?
  • Do you know how to get in touch with your legislators?
  • Have you read the text of the proposal, petition or bill?
  • Do you think I can do it alone?
  • If you’ve done nothing, are you going to complain when you lose your freedoms?
  • Do you think I can do it alone?
  • — Am I really making a difference?

That last one always catches me. It’s like the brakes are slammed on and I’m whiplashed around. It’s a reset because I know that I do make a difference; Yes, little ol’ me. I can make a difference and so can you. However, I cannot manage what other people do or how they choose to protect their freedoms. — I can manage what I do.

Part of what I do is to encourage others and that means that I need to share the ways in which you can get involved and as the anti-gunners say, “Do something.” There are many people who are already “doing something,” and you can join in. Some of these people are members of the DC Project, which is the group of women that I joined in Washington D.C. last summer. We are #doingsomething .

I’m stressing the words “do something” and “doing something” because each time a crazy person uses a firearm in an act of evil politicians begin listing the gun bans they’re going to implement, and the anti-gun groups use the hashtag #dosomething to encourage them in taking away our rights. We stress the “doing something” phrase because we know that gun laws don’t stop crazy people, but taking action ( #doingsomething ) does help.

Examples of how we’re already doing something:
(These are programs that are making a difference and making us safer in our communities.)

You can check out any of these programs and reach out to ask how you can help. You can create your own ventures or join an existing one. If you’re not sure where or how just ask someone!
